Marriage - Introduction

In our community, several years back, Marriage was an elaborate event spread over 5 days. Later it became a two-day event and on some occasions it happens just in a day also.In those days, Marriage was conducted in the Bride's house itself in a grand manner (before our Community had its Avinasi Parvathi Kalyana Mandapam) .

Later, several philanthropic minded people of our Community got together and built the Parvathi Kalyana Mandapam with all facilities in the West car Street of Avinasi. After that Marriages were mainly conducted at our mandapam itself in Avinasi.

Off late several Marriages are being conducted in other Marriage Halls also by our Community people.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

It would be great if the following long time traditions and customs are followed wholeheartedly in our Marriages

  1. While performing various Seerkal and during Muhurtham - especially upon entering Manavarai

    1. All "Arumaikkaararkal" wear "Urumaalai" and Veshti, along with Vibhoothi,Santhanam and Kungumam

    2. All "Arumaikkaari" remain in Poorna State (wearing Saree with Poo, Pottu, Manjal, Kungumam and ornaments)

  2. "Maapillai Thozhan" and "Pen Thozhi" should always accompany the Bridegroom and Bride during the entire marriage event, helping them in al aspects.

  3. During "Arugumanam Edutthal" and "Aseervaatham", one can pray and bless the newly married couple.

  4. Previously "Nagavalli Vaibhavam" or "Naalaanai Thanni Vaartthal" was an important event in our community and was conducetd without fail in all the Marriages. It used to be a practice those days to enquire about the marriage as "How well did Muhurtham and Nagavalli happen?" as Nagavalli was an integral and important event of the Marriage.

  5. Though it is currently followed by some, few people are skipping this important event in the Marriage for some reason, though our Marriage invitations invariably say "Muhurtham, Nagavali Vaibhavam and Oonjal"

  6. This Nagavalli is mainly performed traditionally from olden days to nullify and neutralize "Kan Dhrishti" (Evil Eye) and "Peedai" for the newly married Bride and Bridegroom. It would be nice if this is followed by all with spirit wholehearetedly

  7. Bridegroom should be in Red Silk Veshti only until the Nagavalli is completed. Only after that he should switch over to White Veshti
